The Granada Theatre is located in Emporia, Kansas (approximately 27,000 people). This Spanish Colonial Revival theater opened in 1929. The Granada theatre was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985 and after threats of demolishion, was saved and renovated through volunteer efforts. The revoation of this historic theatre has helped to re-energize Emporia's downtown with the town's investment of $125 million into a new art center, commercial and living spaces, and a Granada Plaza.
